News from Miller's Mon-STARS

Celebration
Tomorrow, Friday, May 10, we will have another classroom celebration for earning 300 Safe, Responsible, and Respectful sticks.  Each student may bring one toy to school tomorrow.  If the toy is an action figure or a stuffed animal, the student may bring two.  We will have a short amount of time tomorrow to play.

Conference Forms
If you have not turned in your conference form, please do so as soon as possible.

STAAR Testing
Next week, we will be taking the Math STAAR on Monday and the Reading STAAR on Tuesday.  Fifth grade will be testing on Wednesday, so our campus will be closed Monday-Wednesday.  The campus may also be closed on Thursday due to make up tests being given.  Please do not come to campus on those days.  If you need to bring something for you child, leave it in the office and the office staff will get it to our classroom.

Please make sure your student has a good night's sleep before each testing day.  Make sure they have a nutritious breakfast the morning of the test.  Breakfast is free to all students on campus the days of the tests.  Please make sure your student stays calm and remind them that this is their opportunity to show what they know.

Field Day
On Friday, May 17, we will have Field Day.  If you have volunteered to help, THANK YOU!!!  If you would like to come and participate with our class, you are welcome.

Please make sure your child has a water bottle that day.  It can get hot, and we do not want children getting sick because of the heat.  Students may wear their swimsuits to school that morning or bring them to school with them.  I will make sure we have time to go to the restroom to change.  Please send sunscreen.  The students will have to apply it, or they can help each other apply it.  I will not apply sunscreen on students.  Students may bring a towel to dry off with, but there will be no time to change our clothes after field day.  Students will go home wet.  If they are in the YMCA, they will be able to change after they get to the cafeteria.  If they go to a daycare, they can change at the daycare.  Walkers, car riders, and students who ride the bus will go home wet.

Cultural Project
I hope everyone is having a good time researching a country.  Country questions are due tomorrow.  I will look at them to make sure they are completed, but I will give them back to students so they can use them to create their poster.  Posters and food samples are due in the classroom the morning of May 21.  I hope you will be able to attend!!

Yearbooks
Yearbooks were distributed today.  Please keep them at home until the last day of school.  We will have a yearbook signing party on the last day.  If your student did not purchase a yearbook, I will have a small book for them to get signatures from their friends.  Everyone will be able to participate.  There will be no signatures on bodies or clothing of any kind.

If you ordered a yearbook and your child did not receive it, please contact PTA.

Spring Carnival Basket
Thank you to all who donated items to our class basket.  It has turned out to be great!!  I forwarded Mrs. Barber's email that contained pictures of the basket.  Hope to see you at the carnival tomorrow night!!

Cultural Project
In your child's Thursday folder you will find information about our next big and final project.  This is all about Cultural Diversity.  Students will learn about where their ancestors came from and research a country to share with the class.  There are several due dates along the way, so please read the papers carefully.  They are colored in groups that need to be turned in together.  The final celebration will be Tuesday, May 21, 8:30 - 10:00 AM.  Students will bring in their posters and a dish of food to share.  All families are invited to attend.

Spring Conferences
There is a pink form in your child's Thursday folder to sign up for a conference.  These conferences are very different than the fall conferences.  Students will lead their families through the work they have completed this year and share their accomplishments.  Several families will be in the room at the same time listening to their own student.  Families will work at their own pace to peruse student work.  I will be available to answer any general questions you might have.  The dates for these conferences are May 20 - 21.

Race to Recycle
In celebration of FCE Earth Week, Coyotes, we are asking you to join the race to recycle!  Beginning Monday April 29th through May 2nd bring in newspapers for recycling. The class with the tallest stack of newspaper at the end of the contest will be awarded a popcorn party and the 'Go Green' trophy!  Join the race to make Earth a better place!

JDRF
The third grade classes earned the most money for the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.  They have earned a pizza party which will be held during lunch on May 20, 2019.  Yay!!!

Consequences
Sometimes, as the school year comes to an end, an increase in student behavior occurs. As a reminder, our classroom consequences may include: completing laps at recess; written or oral apologies; emails, agenda notes, or phone calls home; and sitting at another lunch table for a designated number of days.

STAAR Testing
We are quickly approaching the days for testing.  Our Math STAAR will be on May 13, and our Reading STAAR will be on May 14.  The campus will be closed that week (Monday - Thursday) for testing.  No visitors will be allowed to enter the building.  Keep calm.  Everyone is doing a great job reviewing strategies for these tests!!!

News from Miller's Mon-STARS

Thank you!!
I really appreciate how many of you have volunteered to send in glue sticks and go on our field trip.  Thank you so much for your support!!

Field Trip
We will be going to the Play for All Abilities Park in Round Rock on Friday, April 12.  We will leave around 9:15 and return around 2:00.  If your child is bringing a lunch from home, make sure it is in a disposable container (bag) so that we do not have to keep up with lunch boxes.  Please send a water bottle with your child.  There are water fountains and restrooms at the park, so we will be able to stay hydrated.

Chaperones -- you will need to drive.  Carpooling is a great option.  If you offered to bring a cooler, I will need you (or another parent) to bring the cooler to the park.  We don't have a lot of room on the buses for extra people or coolers.  Thanks so much for volunteering your time!!

Permission forms -- There were a few forms that were not signed on the back.  If your child brought their form back home, please sign the back and return it to school.  Thanks!

Carnival
Our spring carnival is quickly approaching.  If you would like to buy wrist bands for children or raffle tickets, you can still do that.  You can go to the PTA's website and order online, or you can send in the money with your student.  I believe there is a printable form on the PTA's website.  Wristbands and tickets go home in Thursday folders each week.

Carnival Basket
Our class is sponsoring a Lego basket.  If you would like to donate anything Lego-related please send it to school with your child.  Baskets are a big part of the carnival, and the kids love to see what their class has put together.  We want to make it great!!!

Carnival Class Project
Our class is in the process of creating a collage for the silent auction.  You don't want to miss seeing it!!

Field Day
The coaches sent home a form about volunteers needed for field day.  If you would like to volunteer, just fill out the form and send it to school.

Report Cards
You will find your child's report card in their purple folder.  Please celebrate their successes and discuss what could be better.  Everyone is working hard to learn everything they need to know to move to 4th grade.

Field Trip
Our spring field trip will be April 12.  We will be going to the Play for All Abilities Park in Round Rock.  We will eat lunch in the pavilion, take a nature walk, and play in the park.  We will rotate through these 3 different areas.  We will need several chaperones for this trip, so if you are interested, please let me know.  You must sign up to be a volunteer and have a background check done through the district in order to supervise students.  If you have not done this, here is the link.  If you do it online, it only takes about 72 hours for completion of the application process.

Spring Carnival Wrist Bands
If you would like to purchase a wrist band for your student, please go to the PTA's website.  You can order online, or in person, and on specific dates after school.  All of the information is here.  The spring carnival will be on April 26.

Spring Carnival Basket
Our class will sponsor a Lego-themed basket.  If you would like to donate items for the basket, please send them to school as soon as you can.  Our wonderful homeroom mom will put the basket together for us.

Spring Pictures
Individual pictures will be in your child's Thursday folder.  If you did not purchase pictures and do not want them, just send them back to school.  If you would like to purchase pictures, keep the ones you want and send the rest back with a check to pay for the ones you keep.  I believe you can also pay online for the ones you keep.  Information is in the packet.

Class pictures will come later.
