Coins for Classrooms
Our school has raised $5,584.20 for classrooms in need.  Our class raised $389.42.  Thank you for your generosity.  I know the money will go to good use in rebuilding classrooms in the areas devastated by the hurricane.  As a result of our class having raised the most money in 3rd grade, we get to have a spooky flashlight reading in the library next month.  Fun!!!

Practice Spelling Test
On the weeks that we have our practice spelling tests, I have a meeting on Fridays during specials.  This means that I have no time to grade the tests to give back to the students before the end of the day. I let the kids vote on how they wanted to handle this -- take the practice test on Thursday and get the graded test that afternoon or take the practice test on Friday and get the graded test on Monday.  They voted to take the practice test on Thursday.  The regular test will still be given on Friday.  So... our practice test this week is Thursday.

Mixtures
Thank you so much for signing up to send donations for our mixtures project.  If you didn't get a chance to sign up for something and still would like to donate, just choose something and send it in.  It will need to be a dry-type food that can easily be mixed with other things, but also be separated from the mix.  We need all donations on or before October 2.  Thanks!!!

Homework Packets
This has been the first year that we (third grade teachers) have not put a reading log on the front of the homework packet.  I don't think this is working for our class, so beginning October 6 our packet will have a reading log on the front.  The reading log will be where students write down their reading for the week.  It will also contain the spelling words for the week and any important dates that are coming up.  I think this might work better for us.

Coins for Classrooms
Students are encouraged to bring COINS FOR CLASSROOMS to be given to Donors Choose for schools in the Houston area. Our campus goal is to send $2000! That’s about $2.25 per student. Please send any coins you’d like to donate to FCE in an envelope/baggie with the amount included and teacher name on it. The classroom that has the most donations will win “Flashlight Reading” in the library.

Writing Club
Writing Club-Forest Creek’s Writing Club for students in 2nd-5th grade will begin on Monday, Sept. 11 after school at 2:55. Writing Club will be every OTHER Monday If your child is staying after school, please send a note or email your teacher stating the way that he/she will go home at 4:00.

Writing Club will meet in Mrs. Crochet’s music room immediately after school then go to the library to write.  All 2nd-5th graders are welcome. Bring a journal or notebook, a pencil, and your creative ideas!

Service Learning ClubDo you like to help others? Do you want to make a difference in the lives of other people? You should join our FCE Service Club. Service Club will begin on Monday, Sept. 18 after school at 2:55.  Service Club will alternate with Writing Club and will be on every OTHER Monday.  Please send a note or email to your child's teacher giving the student permission to stay and stating how they will go home.

In Service Club, the children plan, lead, and participate in service learning projects for our school.  After school, we will meet in  Mrs. Crochet's music room, then we will go to Mrs. Bartholomew’s room.   All 4th and 5th graders are welcome. Come help us, help others!

Lunch money
When your child brings money for lunch or breakfast, remind them to stop by the cafeteria in the morning before they come to class to deposit the money in their account.  The cafeteria staff appreciates the money being turned in before lunch time so the line doesn't slow down because of that.

Restroom
Please encourage your child to stop by the restroom on their way to class in the morning.

Tardy Bell
The tardy bell rings at 7:40.  Students must be in the classroom when the bell rings or they will receive a tardy.  They can not just be in the building; they must be in the classroom.

Agenda
Please make sure you check your child's agenda.  We will begin writing in it daily to get in the habit of doing it.  We will put in assignments and when they are due.  We will also include special dates to remember.  Also, students should be recording their reading (20 minutes each day for 4 days per week).  I will be looking at this periodically beginning next week.
